PetSafe Basic Bark Control Collar

The PetSafe Basic Bark Control Collar is a static collar offering 6 levels of progressive correction. Waterproof and submersible up to 1.5m, this collar will fit all dogs with a neck measurement of less than 71cm. However, it is not suitable for dogs under 6 months of age or weighing less than 3.6kg.

6 levels of progression means the collar will only be giving the smallest required charge for each bark. If your dog barks within 30 seconds of the previous bark, it will go up one level. If it’s been more than 30 seconds since the last bark, it’ll start again at the lowest level. For your dog’s safety – if they bark 15 times or more within 50 seconds the collar will shut-off for 3 minutes.

The static collar uses a vibration sensor to ensure no false discharges, and will only respond to the barking of the dog wearing it. If you have more than one dog that barks – you can use a collar on each dog.

The Basic Bark Collar includes a 6V battery, and batteries will generally last 3 to 6 months. Some people may find the first battery runs out faster than others as their dog adjusts to the collar. The indicator light on the unit will flash when the battery needs replacing

Fitting the Collar:

• Adjust the fit of the collar before installing the battery.
• Place the unit against the front of your dog’s neck and adjust the collar until you can snugly fit one finger between the tip of a contact point and your dog’s skin. 
• Leave it on for a few minutes and then recheck the fit.
• The collar should be as loose as possible whilst still providing good contact
• The excess can be trimmed off once you have found a good fit. Remember to account for a young dog growing bigger or a thick winter coat depending on the breed.
• Mark the desired length with a pen. 
• Remove the collar from your dog and trim the excess. 
• Seal the cut collar with a flame/lighter along the frayed edge.

Tips & Tricks:

• Remove before playing – as barking during play and being corrected could lead to association of play with correction
• Wash the dog’s neck area and the contacts of the collar weekly with a damp cloth – be sure both are fully dry before putting the collar back on.
• Check the contact points are still attached tightly each week. And screw them tighter if needed

Safety:

• Please don’t leave the collar on for more than 12 hours a day.
• Whenever you can – reposition the collar every 1 to 2 hours of wear.
• Never connect a lead to the correction collar or walk your dog with a metal collar while they are wearing the bark control collar. 
• If necessary to walk your dog while they’re wearing the bark collar, ensure that nothing is making contact with the unit on the front. Use a fabric collar or harness.
• Ensure your dog isn’t unattended when first wearing the collar until they have received a couple of static corrections. This way you are there to reassure them the first few times if needed and you know they will not be in any distress.
